New Cross-Disciplinary Electives at IFM for Master’s Students
This year, IFM has strengthened its educational approach with the introduction of new elective courses called Cross-Disciplinary Electives (CDE), aimed at Master's students in Management and Fashion Design. These courses, covering five key areas—communication, digital technologies, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and humanities—are taught by the school's research faculty as well as industry experts.
The CDEs, which run for six months, aim to deepen students' expertise and broaden their knowledge beyond their main degree. By combining theory and practice, these courses prepare students to enter a constantly evolving professional sector.
Each thematic area includes three different courses. In the field of digital technologies, students will delve into the world of AI applied to fashion, augmented reality, and wearable technologies. In terms of sustainability, they will work on social or environmental impact projects, in partnership with major brands or NGOs, while exploring strategies such as zero waste in fashion design. The entrepreneurship electives will offer case studies on start-ups and practical workshops in collaboration with incubators from IFM.
Here are some examples of courses:
- Artificial Intelligence, Automation & IoT
- Writing for Fashion
- Nature’s Genius (biomimicry for design and innovation)
- Visual Semiotics
- Think Tank: Innovation through Entrepreneurship
- The Body in the Performing Arts
This initiative complements the existing certificates in sustainability, entrepreneurship, and craftsmanship (only for management programs), promoting the acquisition of expertise through collaborative work and dialogue between managers and designers.
