Objectives

  • Enhance your 3D creativity through structured garment design
  • Elevate your draping skills by working on the iconic tailored jacket with a focus on shoulder structure
  • Learn essential draping tips and techniques and tackle the complexities of a tailored jacket (collars, lapels, darts, pockets, and sleeve caps)

Program

This Summer School program revisits the essentials of the tailored jacket by:

  • Choosing and adapting the proper dress form
  • Marking the dress form with style tape
  • Exploring different volumes
  • Learning specific draping and pinning techniques

Participants in this program will also explore the differences between various draping and tailoring styles, including the Bar-style tailored jacket, known for its nipped-in waist, structured shoulders, flared peplum-like hem, and impeccable craftsmanship, and the masculine-style tailored jacket, which draws inspiration from traditional men’s tailoring with its straight, structured lines, lower button placement, and minimal waist shaping.

Tutor

This program is led by Patrice Dutartre, a self-taught designer with an extensive career in fashion. He has worked as a designer for Cymbeline (bridal gowns) and Poppy Moreni (ready-to-wear) before joining Thierry Mugler and Hanae Mori in Haute Couture. For the past 20 years, he has been creating bespoke pieces for a private clientele.

In addition to his work as a designer, Patrice currently teaches draping techniques as a professor for 1st-year and 3rd-year bachelor's students, as well as summer school students and professional certification programs.

Certificate

At the end of the program, a certificate is issued to participants who have attended all courses.

Campus

Are travel and accommodation costs included?

Travel and accommodation costs in Paris are the responsibility of each participant. IFM can recommend, upon request, different options for accommodation and help foreign students in organizing their stay.

Practical information

What are the registration procedures for foreign students?

Participants from outside the European Union must ensure, if necessary, that they have a valid visa for France. Upon request and after full payment of the course, IFM will send the participant a letter confirming registration in order to support the visa application. IFM will also send you a visa guide upon request.

Important: 15 calendar days are necessary for consular authorities to treat visa request, sometimes longer in the high season.

If you are non-French you must ensure you are covered by your health insurance during your stay.
