In a world where visuals shape perceptions, every image tells a story, a brand’s identity, a product’s essence, or a creator’s vision. This course immerses you in the world of Art of Direction, sharpening your ability to analyze, interpret, and craft compelling visual narratives. Master the language of imagery and develop your own unique creative voice.

Classes will take place Tuesday to Friday from 9 am to 5:30 pm. Classes start on Tuesday, July 15, as Monday, July 14 is a national holiday.

Objectives

  • Understand the role of the Image Art Director, as well as interactions with other professionals in visual production
  • Explore the different careers and key players in the image industry
  • Acquire the fundamentals of analyzing fashion and luxury images
  • Design and produce a photo series in response to a creative brief

Program

This program will help you refine your artistic sense, develop a critical eye, and master the fundamentals of image art direction.

  • Discover the role of the Image Art Director through the creation of a real portfolio and concrete projects
  • Introduction to references and inspirations through an overview of influential fashion photographers and art directors
  • Visit to an art exhibition related to the course theme
  • Learn how to analyze images using specific techniques and methodologies
  • Design and produce a series of visuals based on a specific brief
  • Collaborate on a group project to create a photographic series covering five categories of images related to the fashion and luxury industry
  • Development of the project layout using simple tools like PPT or Keynote, or advanced software like InDesign, to enhance the produced images and create compelling storytelling
  • Presentation of the final project

Tutor

Bosco Tamames is a fashion and image design graduate from Istituto Europeo di Design (Madrid and Rome) and Institut Français de la Mode, based in Paris.

From an early age, he demonstrated a strong sensitivity to creative disciplines. His journey in the fashion industry, fueled by genuine passion, embodies duality, rigor, sensibility, artistic comprehension, and a strong determination to achieve excellence. Through his studies and professional experiences (Hermès, Nina Ricci, Christian Dior Couture), he has developed a trained eye for image, always keeping the product itself at the forefront.

Bosco Tamames is an art director with his own studio and co-founder and co-creative director of the womenswear brand Boscoier.

Certificate

At the end of the program, a certificate of participation in the Summer School is issued to participants who have attended all courses.

To register, simply fill in the online form and pay the required deposit. On receipt of the online form, the application is studied by the Summer School team. Once the application has been accepted, an email is sent specifying the payment schedule for the balance of the registration fee. If the application is not accepted, the deposit will be refunded.

How can I apply?

On reception of the application form, the application is reviewed by the Summer School team. Once the application is accepted, the participant will receive a confirmation email with the instructions for payment (deposit and balance of the registration fee).

Please note that registration is confirmed only after payment of the deposit.

Fees & Scholarship

Can I apply for a scholarship?

IFM scholarships are available thanks to the generous sponsorship of the IFM Foundation. They are reserved for High-School Summer programs only.

Scholarships are available in a limited number and are need-based. They may cover up to 75% of tuition fees and are restricted to one demand per year and per participant. In case of registration to several programs, one grant only can be given.

Campus

Are travel and accommodation costs included?

Travel and accommodation costs in Paris are the responsibility of each participant. IFM can recommend, upon request, different options for accommodation and help foreign students in organizing their stay.

Practical information

What are the registration procedures for foreign students?

Participants from outside the European Union must ensure, if necessary, that they have a valid visa for France. Upon request and after full payment of the course, IFM will send the participant a letter confirming registration in order to support the visa application. IFM will also send you a visa guide upon request.

Important: 15 calendar days are necessary for consular authorities to treat visa request, sometimes longer in the high season.

If you are non-French you must ensure you are covered by your health insurance during your stay.
