The meticulous craftsmanship involved in creating a bespoke men's jacket is one of the most advanced and esteemed skills in fashion, embodying a tradition of perfection. This refined art invites you to delve into a world of handcrafted excellence.

Objectives

  • Understand the intricacies that set tailor-made clothing apart
  • Learn, practice, and master the techniques required to create a structured garment—specifically, a part of a bespoke men's jacket
  • Construct a custom half-front jacket using muslin
  • Learn to analyze the quality of a finished product

Program

This Summer School program provides an introduction into bespoke tailoring. In this program, you will understand the differences between different types of garments— men's bespoke, semi-bespoke, and ready-to-wear. This course also allows you to explore the fabrics and the unique characteristics of various tailoring styles: English, Italian, French, etc.

From shaping the garment to the assembly process and finishing touches, participants will create a finished hand-sewn half-front lined jacket with an inner pocket and topstitching along both the front and lining edges.
If time permits, work on buttonhole samples.

Tutor

Catarina Knoch-Mulot is a distinguished Master Tailor, deeply passionate about the art of tailoring and haute couture. Her journey began in Sweden, where she trained as a tailor for both ladies and gentlemen. She refined her expertise through further studies and professional experience in Denmark and Norway, before relocating to Paris to elevate her career.

In Paris, Catarina collaborated with renowned fashion houses such as Smalto, Lanvin, and Cerruti, working alongside master tailors and gaining invaluable experience. In 2018, she established her own studio, offering bespoke tailoring services to both men and women, and that same year, she earned her Master Tailor diploma in Stockholm.

Her passion for the craft extends to education, where she has been teaching at the Institut Français de la Mode. Over the past six years, she has shaped the next generation of men's tailors in France, playing a key role in the revival of this timeless tradition. At IFM, she teaches specialized courses such as the Certificat de Savoir-Faire for advanced programs and conducts workshops for summer school participants and professional fashion house staff.
