Sustainability, but make it sexy: leopard print fashion and the real life leopard
Throughout history, people have dressed themselves in leopard print to titillate, subvert, shock, and disrupt. And still today, leopard print remains a proliferating fashion design with perpetual, cross–market appeal. But as demand for textiles replicating the leopard’s pattern soar, leopards themselves have disappeared from more than 75% of their historic range. In this seminar, I will explore what first led me to investigate leopard print fashion’s perpetual popularity and enduring appeal, the quantified outcomes of my research that present a colossal opportunity for protecting biodiversity, and finally how I am turning this idea into a reality by using the empowering designs of animals to safeguard the wildlife that inspires them.
